About Air Quality Monitoring in Colorado's White River Basin »

The Bureau of Land Management White River Field Office1 funded Air Resource Specialists2 to establish air quality sites in the White River Basin. This effort adds value to air quality monitoring efforts in the nearby Yampa River Basin (Dinosaur National Monument and Maybell) as well as air quality monitoring in the Uinta Basin in Utah. Air quality monitoring in the White River Basin allows for a better regional understanding of air quality needed for BLM to analyze air quality impacts in Northwestern Colorado3.

For this effort, the first site was the Meeker in 2009. The Rangely site was added shortly after. The Meeker site has been removed. The Rangely site is a Federal Reference Method (FRM) site and is audited annually by the Colorado Air Pollution Control Division5.

The Piceance Mountain Top monitoring site collects metrological, ozone, PM2.5 and oxides of nitrogen data. Cameras at the Meeker, Rangely and Piceance Mountain Top sites establish a baseline for visibility monitoring and add value to the physical data being collected at the sites.
